The leader of the Hungarian opposition Péter Magyar announced this Friday legal measures against an alleged plan by the ultranationalist Government to spread a video with sexual content and harm him in the face of the elections April, for which it is a favorite.

“It is unprecedented, even in Europe, that a party in power attempts to discredit and blackmail its main political rival by recording a sexual act using illegal methods and threatening to publish the recordings,” Magyar said in a statement.

Magyar affirmed that the authorities must investigate who committed these crimes, although he points out that the origin is in the

Hungary holds legislative elections on April 12 in which, according to the vast majority of polls, Orbán’s party, Fidesz, could suffer defeat after 16 years governing with absolute majorities. According to the latest polls, published today by the Idea Institute, Magyar’s Tisza party would have 48% of the votes, compared to 38% for Fidesz.

Several media outlets have recently published information that in the coming days a video would be made public in which either Magyar, or another senior member of Tisza, would appear in a sexual act or consuming drugs.

Unknown people have created a web page where you can see the message of “once upon a time”, the date of August 3, 2024 and a black and white photo of a bed, which was supposedly taken with a hidden camera.

Last Thursday, Magyar acknowledged in a video that on that date he had a “consensual sexual act” with an old girlfriend in the apartment that appears in the image. “I am a 45-year-old man and I usually have a sexual life. With adult partners,” said Magyar.

The politician has said that this “cowardly attack is just more proof that power is afraid” and has encouraged his voters to stay united. “If we let them divide us, they will win and our country will fall,” he said.

Magyar has even said that his then-girlfriend could have collaborated in a plot to discredit him, although she has denied it and has shown her support for the politician.

The Government and Fidesz have stated that They have nothing to do with the matteralthough Orbán’s party has said that Magyar is a hypocrite and a liar who leads a “double life” at night, without explaining what he means.
