A 26-year-old man carried out an unusual robbery in Kayseri, Turkey, when he robbed a jewelry store and fled the scene… riding a donkey. The episode occurred on Tuesday night and quickly went viral due to the caricatured nature of the escape.
According to local police, the suspect broke into the metal roof of the establishment with the help of a forklift, broke a window and entered the store, where he managed to steal around 150 grams of 14-karat gold. Video surveillance images show the young man jumping onto the counter, collecting the gold that fell to the floor and leaving the place through the same window through which he entered.
Outside, several cameras captured the moment in which the suspect roamed the city streets on a donkey, in an unusual escape that ended up facilitating his identification. Authorities were able to locate him shortly afterwards, using video surveillance images, and he was detained without resistance.
During interrogation, the young man admitted the crime and stated that he was drunk at the time of the robbery, showing regret for what he did. The Kayseri Police Department confirmed the arrest and recovery of the stolen gold.
