It is not clear what type of rights the firm has acquired; according to reports, Sony Music is to continue to own and control the rights to her recordings. Sources in The Sun claim that finance played a key role. She allegedly spent fast and the IRS says she owes $600,000 in taxes and penalties.
“Selling a catalog is often considered a last resort and often ends in big legal battles to get it back. It’s no secret that Britney has struggled with money in the past, but she wants more cash and she wants it fast, so this seemed like the obvious move,” a source told The Sun.
