Bloody massacre in Nigeria: Gunmen attacked three villages, at least 45 victims are reported

Western Nigeria is reeling from another wave of extreme violence. Unknown gunmen have killed at least 45 people in coordinated attacks on three villages in Niger State, with many of the victims shot or brutally cut.

At least 45 people were killed by unknown gunmen in three attacks on villages in Niger state, located in the west of Nigeria. They shot their victims or cut their throats, AFP reported on Saturday, citing a representative of an unnamed humanitarian organization.

  • Unknown gunmen have killed at least 45 people in Nigeria.
  • The most victims were in the village of Konkoso, where 38 bodies were found.
  • The attackers left burned houses, more bodies may be found.
  • The security situation in Nigeria is very bad.
  • The US will send 200 soldiers to Nigeria for army training.

Dozens of victims

At least 38 bodies were found in Konkoso village. Almost all the houses there have been burned and it is possible that there will be more bodies in them.

Another seven people were killed by the attackers in the village of Tungan Makeri, one body was found in the village of Pissa.

All the villages are located in the Borgu locality bordering Kwara State, where more than 160 people were allegedly massacred by jihadists on February 3.

Bad security situation in the country

The security situation is bad in many parts of Africa’s most populous country. In some areas, there are armed criminal gangs that kidnap civilians, while others are strongholds of Islamists fighting against the government.

US President Donald Trump recently declared that there is a “genocide” of Christians in Nigeria. This claim is rejected by the Nigerian government and many independent experts, according to whom both Christians and Muslims are victims of such attacks.

The United States announced this week that it would send 200 troops to Nigeria to train its armed forces to fight jihadist groups.
