During the Turista campaign, aimed at eliminating corruption in arranging stays for foreigners in the Banskobystrica Region, on Tuesday (February 10), five persons, including two female police officers, were detained by members of the Inspection Service Office. One of them is already facing charges at the foreign police in Banská Bystrica she was supposed to accept bribes for arranging stays for foreigners. ÚIS spokeswoman Andrea Dobiášová informed TASR about this on Saturday.
“During the event, a house search, a search of other premises and land was carried out, during which evidentiary materials were seized, especially documents, computer technology and other electronic devices, including mobile phones,” Dobiášová added that the ÚIS investigator accused one policewoman and two civilians of the detained persons of corrupt criminal activity.
The accused policewoman from the foreign police in Banská Bystrica according to the ÚIS, she was supposed to receive flat-rate financial rewards for the trouble-free and speedy processing of the residence agenda of foreigners from third countries in the territory of the Slovak Republic. She was supposed to receive the money from a civilian who worked as a mediator of the residence agenda for foreigners.
“The ÚIS investigator charged the policewoman with the crime of accepting a bribe and two civilians with the crime of bribery. The policewoman may be sentenced to imprisonment for three to eight years, and civilians six months to three years,” said Dobiášová. As she added, the investigator also processed a request for the custodial prosecution of all three accused persons, but the judge decided that they will be prosecuted at liberty.
ÚIS claims that in recent years, he has made the activity more efficient in the fight against the corrupt behavior of police officers, members of the Corps of Prison and Judicial Guards and the Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic. While in 2023 the office’s investigators accused only five persons of corrupt criminal activity, in 2024 there were 18 and last year 13.
