The young singer Lucía Sánchez, known as Lucycalys and since this Saturday together with DJ Tony Grox, has had time to abandon and return to music at only 19 years old. “It was a friend who encouraged me to return last year,” she explained to the media after winning two awards in the contest with the theme I WILL LOVE. A few months ago, he took the tests Operation Triumph 2025but it didn’t happen. So he had the opportunity to be part of this duo and win the Golden Mermaid.
Tony Grox She is from Cádiz, like the singer. Although their styles are very different, they met through mutual friends and began to collaborate “in a totally organic way,” she says. The style of the DJ and producer combines flamenco roots with the electronic avant-garde. He has collaborated with artists such as Kiki Morente, Lachispa (who participated in Benidorm Fest last year) and Teo Lucadamo. He has already worked in the United States but, in addition to the 150,000 euros of the main prize, Univision chose them to travel to the country and record a single in Miami, together with one of the most recognized producers in the Latin music industry, in addition to doing an extensive promotional tour.
“Since we performed in the first semi-final we noticed the affection of the public, but there have been very good contestants in this edition and songs too. We did not expect it,” he says about the success they have obtained in the record of this edition, the first of the TVE contest in which there was no choice to represent Spain in Eurovision.
“We find the opportunity it gives us to be of incalculable value,” says Lucycalys. The duo, which received maximum support from the audience and a great score from the professional jury, announced this Saturday that they are already preparing an EP with new songs.
Sixth edition confirmed
The winners will have to return to Benidorm to present the prize to their successors. RTVE has confirmed that Benidorm Fest will return in 2027 to celebrate its sixth edition, regardless of whether the public corporation participates in Eurovision again or not.
“Long live Benidorm Fest. We will have this sixth edition with the support of the city council and the Valencian Generalitat,” María Eizaguirre, RTVE’s Communication Director, confirmed to the press this Sunday about the commitment announced in the last few hours by the president, José Pablo López.
The final of the Benidorm Fest 2026 achieves a 12.1% screen share, completing the least viewed edition in its history. These are acceptable data for La 1, although far from previous years. Despite its decline, the public network led on Saturday night.
