Brazil began its participation in the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games in bobsled with the duo formed by Edson Bindilatti and Luís Bacca recording the 24th best time on the first day of the qualifiers, among 26 competitors.
The Brazilian sled achieved a combined time of 1min53s76, including the first two descents on the frozen concrete track at the Sliding Center, in Cortina d’Ampezzo, and will return for at least one more lap on Tuesday (17), starting at 3pm (Brasília time).
The twenty best classified after the first three rounds advance to the fourth and final round, considered the final.
Doubles from Germany set the three best times, led by Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhaur, who clocked 1min49s90.
“This is a luxury preparation for our ‘four man’ [trenó com quatro homens]. But we still want to try to get a good result here tomorrow in these next descents”, said pilot Edson Bindilatti, a Bahian from the small town of Camamu who is completing his sixth Olympic participation in Milan-Cortina representing the country in bobsled.
In addition to the dispute with two athletes, Brazil will also participate in the race with four men per sled, starting on Saturday (21), in which the expectation is to achieve a better result.
Brazilian participation in bobsled began at the Salt Lake City Winter Games, in the United States, in 2002. At the Beijing Games, in 2022, the country achieved its best Olympic result, advancing to the finals in the ‘four man’, when it finished in 20th place.
