The executive was ready to react to this controversy and, on the same day, Luís Montenegro ordered the General Secretariat of the Government to reduce costs with subscriptions to the sports channel’s premium channels.
According to the CM, Montenegro is ordering connections to Sport TV to be reduced from eight to two following controversy over expenses, reducing the monthly bill from 585 to… 146 euros.
“Having become aware of this service provided by Sport TV with eight connections, the Prime Minister’s office instructed the General Secretariat of the Government to reduce the connections from eight to two, going from a monthly cost of 585 euros to 146 euros”, said the General Secretariat of the Government, quoted by the morning newspaper.

“The offices of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs have access to the Sport TV service since at least 2017. The service was renewed through a contract signed on December 23, 2025 by the General Secretariat of the Government and NOS, preserving the eight pre-existing connections“, the General Secretariat further clarified.
Access to the channels was available at seven points in the official residence of Palacete de São Bento and at another point in an office of the Assembly of the Republic. Each of them was 73,16 euros.
On December 23, the General Secretariat of the Government entered into a direct agreement with NOS, guaranteeing subscription premium until August 19, 2028. The basis for this direct award is “lack of own resources” – can be read in the agreement consultation on the Base Portal.
