Coimbra doesn't need a lap, says Ana Abrunhosa

Seguro went to the lands affected by bad weather, for the first time after the elections. The mayor of Coimbra, by his side, left a message.

Ana Abrunhosa had been a dissonant voice last week: among so many criticisms of the response to bad weather by the Government or Civil Protection, praised the presence of the Government and the actions of the Army and Navy.

“I want to say just one thing: I am often asked if I missed the Government, if I felt the lack of resources. I want to say that, both the Army and the Marines, they looked for us and reached us, without us asking. And, therefore, Coimbra only has one word to say: thank you all very much and we will continue to be present”, in a press conference.

This Monday, the president of the Municipal Council of Coimbra had a different speech.

Ana Abrunhosa visited areas affected by bad weather alongside Antonio José Seguro. Between Montemor-o-Velho, Ereira or Coimbra.

In between, he told journalists that he preferred to have more measures and fewer visits: “We don’t need members of the Government or Presidents of the Republic every day here on the ground. That’s not what makes the work. What makes the work is the lines that are well-desired and that meet our needs.”

“We don’t want members of the Government here because they want to. Members of the Government are needed elsewhere. It is not necessary for them to come to Coimbra because we don’t need advice – we need measures“, he reinforced.

António José Seguro made his first visit to the field since the elections. He did not speak to journalists but gave incentives to local inhabitants – who asked Seguro to do “something” for them. “Don’t just come and see,” said an affected resident.

“It’s my duty find out of the situation”, commented the elected President of the Republic, who also asked for information on the state of infrastructure and inspections of dikes: “People’s safety must be guaranteed. The State must have this responsibility.”
