The calculation of the scores for the São Paulo samba school parades is scheduled for this Tuesday, 17th, starting at 4pm.
The performances at the Anhembi Sambadrome this weekend will be evaluated on nine criteria.
The scores given by the four judges in each of the criteria will be added together and the school with the highest score will be declared champion of the São Paulo carnival, while the two worst placed among the 14 schools that paraded will be relegated to the access group for next year’s carnival.
In addition to defining the champion parade, the classification will determine the participation of schools on Champions Saturday, on February 21st. The five best placed schools in the first division will participate in the special parade, which will also feature the champions and runners-up of the two access divisions.
Schools in the special group will be evaluated in nine categories. See which ones:
– Harmonia
– Evolution
– Samba-enredo
– Master room and flag bearer
– Front committee
– Allegory
– Plot
– Fantasia
Each criterion will have four jurors, plus an alternate. The evaluators were chosen in a public call with curriculum analysis by the Independent League of Samba Schools of São Paulo.
The judges will give a score of 8 to 10 on each criterion. The gradation is by tenths (0.1). A score of zero is only permitted if the juror points out the absence of a mandatory element for each of the criteria, according to the specifications of the regulations.
Of the four scores in each item, the lowest score is discarded. The discarded grade is not taken into account when adding up the final result.
In the event of a tie in the champion’s decision, the scores discarded in all items will be added together. The school with the highest score among the discards will be declared champion.
If the tie persists, questions drawn before the start of the draw will be used as a tiebreaker, with the school with the highest score being declared the winner.
What were the samba school parades in SP like?
The first night of parades at Anhembi was marked by a diversity of themes, such as female protagonism, ancestry, social struggles, astrology and spirituality. Outside the avenue, the first night was marked by the rupture of a sewage pipe in front of the São Paulo City Hall box.
The repertoire of the schools on the second night was also eclectic, highlighting Afro-Brazilian traditions and messages of faith and resistance.
