Minister Messod Azulay Neto, of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), decided maintain the arrest of the motorsport driver Pedro Turra, accused of beating and causing the death of a 16-year-old teenager in January this year, in Brasília. The decision was made on Friday (13) and announced this Wednesday (18).

When analyzing the habeas corpus filed by the pilot’s defense, the minister judged the request to be hampered by procedural issues. The defense’s request was against the individual decision of a judge, however, the judge’s decision was already confirmed by the TJDFT panel, last Thursday (12). In this case, Minister Messod Azulay Neto rejected that the appeal should be against the group’s decision, and not the individual one.

With the decision, Turra will remain in preventive detention in Papuda prisonin Brasilia.

Last week, the pilot became a defendant for the crime of intentional homicide.

Pedro Turra was indicted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office on charges of causing the death of a 16-year-old teenager during a fight, which occurred in January this year, in which he punched the young man in the face, which spent two weeks in an intensive care unit (ICU) and died on the 7th.

At the beginning of the investigations, the Civil Police stated that the aggression occurred as a result of a disagreement because of gum thrown at a friend of the victim. During the investigation, the police pointed out that the fight was premeditated and had the help of the pilot’s friends.

At the STJ, the pilot’s defense argued that the if you do not meet the legal requirements for detention. The lawyers also highlighted that Turra is being threatened in prison and there is a “real risk” to his physical integrity.
