Meeting must also hammer out the nomination of the vice-president on the ticket; one of the possibilities is Jane Reis (MDB), sister of state deputy Rosenverg Reis (MDB)
The president of the MDB, federal deputy Baleia Rossi (SP), arrives in Rio de Janeiro this Wednesday (18) to seal the party support for mayor Eduardo Paes (PSD) in the dispute for the state government and put the hammer down on the nomination of the vice-president on the ticket.
O name is not yet closed. One of the possibilities is Jane Reis (MDB), sister of state deputy Rosenverg Reis (MDB) and former mayor of Duque de Caxias Washington Reis. The expectation is to announce support for Paes this Thursday (19), amid the reappointment of Washington Reis to the state presidency of the MDB.
The leader withdrew from running for Palácio Guanabara after suffering a setback in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) last week. Convicted of an environmental crime, he was counting on the reversal of the sentence to make his candidacy viable. On the 11th, however, minister Gilmar Mendes voted to maintain the conviction, forming a majority against him.
The case’s rapporteur, minister Flávio Dino, had already expressed himself in the same sense and was accompanied by Cristiano Zanin and Alexandre de Moraes. André Mendonça opened a partial disagreement, and Luiz Fux asked for a review, postponing the decision.
Washington Reis would be the MDB candidate for government if he reversed the conviction. With another vote in favor of ineligibility, Paes moved to end the party’s support, signaling that the party will nominate the vice president.
The PT was also seeking the vice position, but, according to the current design, it should take the Senate seat – which should be occupied by federal deputy Benedita da Silva (PT-RJ).
