Storm Nils is causing serious flooding in France, especially in the west of the country and in Bordeaux, where the Garonne River has burst its banks. The storm also affected Spain before reaching France, being followed by the Oriana depression.
The storms that are crossing Europe are leaving a huge trail of destruction. In France, authorities are on alert for the possibility of major flooding in the coming hours.
These are the effects of a storm that arrived with full force and left several French locations flooded on Valentine’s Day. The western part of France is, so far, the most affected.
In the Bordeaux region, the Garonne River was unable to contain all the water that Storm Nils brought and overflowed its banks. Streets and houses were submerged.
1,600 people were evacuated from the region. The situation is not yet under control. More rain is expected this Wednesday.
Authorities are on alert for flooding across the country. In the capital, they are monitoring the flow of the River Seine. For now, there is no reason to worry.
The water has not yet reached the feet of the famous “Zouave” statue on the Pont de l’Alma, used as a kind of meter among Parisians.
Before passing through France, Storm Nils also left a trail in Spain and was followed by another phenomenon: the Oriana depression, which brought rain, strong winds and sea disturbances. In the Castilla y León area, river flows are at their limits and some have even overflowed their banks.
