The suicide of a young mentally ill underground prisoner in Vienna’s Josefstadt causes a stir. At the end of May 2025, the 23-year-old student was discovered dead in the shared cell by fellow inmates in custody. The Falterwho uncovered the case, made allegations against the judiciary. The question of inadequate, inadequate care and simply incorrect accommodation is raised – and with it the question of whether the young man’s suicide could have been prevented.
