President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) declared this Thursday (19) that the digital revolution and artificial intelligence can promote hate speech, misinformation and precarious work, while speaking at the Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit, in New Delhi, the capital of India.
“They can encourage extremely harmful practices, such as the use of autonomous weapons, hate speech, disinformation, child pornography, feminicide, violence against women and girls and precarious work,” said Lula.
The president highlighted the effect of the use of artificial intelligence in the electoral process, warning of the creation of “manipulated false content that puts democracy at risk.”
Lula criticized large global technology companies, known as big techs, stating that they appropriated data from companies, governments and citizens around the world.
“The current business model of these companies depends on the exploitation of personal data, the renunciation of the right to privacy and the monetization of flashy content that amplifies political radicalization. The governance regime of these technologies will define who participates, who is exploited and who will be left out of this process”, he stated.
The Brazilian leader also defended the regulation of AI through the creation of standards and rules for the use of technology instruments.
In addition to Lula, President Emmanuel Macron, of France, the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, and the Prime Minister of India and host of the meeting, Narendra Modi, also defended the measure.
