The investigation was opened in June last year after Zambelli stated that he would request political asylum in the USA
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined this Wednesday (18) the shelving of an open inquiry to investigate former federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) for the crimes of coercion during the process and obstruction of investigation.
The investigation was opened in June last year after Zambelli stated during an interview that, after fleeing Brazil, he intended to remain in the United States and request political asylum from President Donald Trump’s government.
She also declared that she intended to adopt the “same modus operandi” used by former federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) for the “practice of illicit conduct”. The investigation was opened before Zambelli was arrested in Italy.
In the decision, the minister accepted request for archiving carried out by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). The PGR understood that there is not enough evidence to support a complaint against the former deputy.
“In view of the above, I welcome the statement from the Attorney General’s Office and I grant the shelving of this investigation”, decided the minister.

In July last year, Zambelli was arrested in Romecapital of Italy, where he tried to escape the execution of an arrest warrant issued by minister Alexandre de Moraes.
Because she has dual citizenship, Zambelli left Brazil in search of political asylum in Italy after being sentenced by the STF to 10 years in prison for the invasion of the electronic system of the National Justice Council (CNJ), which occurred in 2023.
According to investigations, Zambelli was the mastermind behind the invasion to issue a false arrest warrant against Alexandre de Moraes. According to investigations, the hacking was carried out by Walter Delgattiwho was also convicted and confirmed that he had carried out the work at the behest of the parliamentarian.
After fleeing to Italy, the Brazilian government requested extradition of the deputy to Brazil.
The final decision on the extradition will be taken during a hearing which will be carried out by the Italian Court in the coming weeks.
