Criticism of the climate agenda
The IAE was created in response to widespread supply disruptions following the oil crisis of 1973. Wright criticized it for also taking on the climate agenda, which aims, among other things, to achieve zero emissions by 2050.
“The United States will use all possible pressure to divert the IEA from this agenda over the next year,” the minister said during a press conference. However, if the agency is no longer able to focus on an impartial approach to energy, ensuring access to energy and energy security, then, unfortunately, we will become a former member of the IEA,” he added.
