The President stated that, despite this, after meetings with the North American head of state, he appeared ‘calm and peaceful’ in private meetings
O President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated this Friday (20), that United States President Donald Trump “acts like he’s on a TV show”but that, after meetings with the North American head of state, he appeared “calm and calm” in private meetings.
“I’ve had the opportunity to observe. Trump is a marketing expert. He’s a digital and social media expert. It’s been very clear that he acts like he’s on a TV show, but in personal meetings he appears much calmer and calmer”, said Lula.
Lula reported the impressions he had of the American president during the official meetings he had with him and said that,
“I’m 80 and he’ll be 80 in June next year, so two 80-year-old men don’t need to fight. We don’t need to put on a show. We need to seriously deal with what age imposes on us and reach an agreement that can serve as an example for the world”, he stated.
“We are going to find the organized crime traffickers, we are going to do it together,” he said.
Lula is in India for the Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit in New Delhi. The President met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a state visit.
Maduro
Lula stated that the arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro by the United States is unacceptable. The PT member defended that Maduro be tried by the courts of his own country.
“We cannot accept that a head of state from one country can invade another country and arrest the president. This is unacceptable. There is no explanation for this. It is unacceptable,” said Lula during a trip to the Asian country.
Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Floreswife of the Venezuelan president, were captured by US military forces on January 3, during a night operation in Caracas.
Charges brought by US authorities include narcoterrorisminternational drug trafficking and money laundering. Initially, Maduro was accused of leading the so-called Cartel de los Soles, an organization classified as terrorist by the USA.
The American government, however, backed away from this specific accusation and found him guilty of “participating, protecting and perpetuating a culture of corruption and enrichment from drug trafficking”.
In this Friday’s interview, Lula defended that Maduro should be tried in Venezuelaand not in the United States.
“I believe that, if Maduro has to be tried, he should be tried in his country, and not in a trial abroad. This is unacceptable. The interference of one nation over another nation,” said Lula.
Penalties for the crimes Maduro is accused of in the United States range from 20 years in prison to life in prison.
Regulation of social networks and punishment
Lula defended the regulation of social networks during the interview with the Indian channel. According to the president, platforms need to be punished when they publish violent content.
“There is a negative side to digital networks, which is people using this media in bad faith. Lies prevail, bad things prevail. This is why we defend the regulation of platforms, and the platform, when it publishes something violent against anyone, must be punished and brought to trial by the regulatory body. Otherwise, we will not be able to deal with the problem”, stated Lula.
Asked about the role of the United Nations (UN), Lula said that the entity is weakened because permanent members of the Security Council no longer talk to each other. The president said he works to make the UN “more representative”.
“So, we need to include more people to give more representation, so that we can avoid what happened in Gaza, what is happening now in dozens of countries on the African continent, coups d’état, wars on the African continent. Therefore, it is necessary for the UN to be more representative. Today, it is not, so we want to change the UN”, said Lula.
The president also said that he does not care about the relationship between United States President Donald Trump and former President Jair Bolsonaro. Lula stated that his attention is on contact between Trump and Brazil.
“The issue with Bolsonaro has been resolved. He was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison, and he will be imprisoned for a long time, for a long time,” Lula declared to the India Today channel.
Lula has been in India since Wednesday (18)and will remain in the country until this Saturday, 21st. Alongside world leaders such as the Indian Prime Minister, Nahendra Modi, and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, the president participated in the Artificial Intelligence Impact Summit in New Delhi. On the occasion, he defended the participation of the Global South to debate the regulation of new technologies.
