NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) reported on Thursday (19) that it detected and tracked several Russian military aircraft operating in Alaska’s ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zone).
NORAD detected and tracked two Russian Tu-95s, two Su-35s and one A-50 operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone, the joint U.S.-Canadian defense organization said in a statement.
According to the command, two F-16s, two F-35s, one E-3 and four KC-135s were sent to intercept, positively identify and escort the aircraft.
One of the Russian military aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace, NORAD said, adding that the plane was escorted until it left the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone.
