The train that connects CPTM line 13-Jade to the terminals of São Paulo/Guarulhos International Airport – Governador André Franco Montoro, popularly known as Cumbica Airport, began, this Friday (20), a new phase of operation.
Now, the general public can use transport from 5:30 pm until midnight. According to AeroGRU, the consortium responsible for operating the stretch, the transport capacity is around 500 people per day.
Operation with reduced capacity is foreseen in the planning carried out by AeroGRU in conjunction with GRU Airport, National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) and regulatory bodies.
Before the announcement, passengers arriving at the CPTM Aeroporto-Guarulhos Station only depended on bus lines provided by the airport.
Transport between the station and terminals is free.
In a statement, AeroGRU states that the advance to the general public represents another stage of implementation, “which includes progressive checks, monitoring of technical teams and continuous adjustments as provided for in the certification milestones.”
The “Peoplemover” – as the equipment was nicknamed at the time of its launch – was subjected to more than 15,000 performance and safety tests, and, since December 2025, it operated daily with airport employees, “demonstrating full technical capacity for its evolution until final operation”.
Delays in starting operations
The start of operations had been postponed since 2024. It moved from February to October, then to February 2025, and later to August of the same year.
In a meeting with Anac on November 28th of last year, AeroGRU estimated that, on January 16th of this year, the population would already be able to use the train, albeit with limitations. Completion comes more than a month late. There are no plans for further expansions yet.
Airmobile
Built 11 meters above the ground, the line is 2,700 meters long. When at full operating capacity, it will be operated with three trains designed to accommodate 200 users each.
The system will have the capacity to transport up to 2,000 passengers per hour, free of charge, on journeys of around 6 minutes to the last terminal.
