The cruel murder of Kuciak and Kušnírová shook society: Žilinka is calling for justice

In the case of the murder of investigative journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kušnírová eight years ago, justice must be achieved after repeated trials. It is essential for the whole society. This is what the Prosecutor General of the SR Maroš Žilinka thinks, who stated it on the social network on the occasion of the eighth anniversary of the murder.

“Today we commemorate the eighth anniversary of the murder of Ján Kuciak and Martina Kušnírová. A tragic event that fundamentally shook society, but especially affected the lives of the families of both young people. And so the question arises whether there is hope for justice after repeated trials. My answer, as a person who should have been the first to be shot, is: I believe that it will happen and it must happen. It is necessary not only for the whole society, but especially for parents who have lost the most valuable thing they had,” said Žilinka.

Journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kušnírová were murdered on February 21, 2018 in their family home in Veľká Mač in the Galanta district. Three judgments are valid in the case. The perpetrators of the murder, Miroslav Marček and Tomáš Szabó, were previously given 25-year non-parole sentences, Zoltán Andruskó 15 years non-parole. Marian Kočner and Alena Zsuzsová are indicted in the case of order murder. The Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic annulled the previous two judgments. The case thus reached the Specialized Criminal Court for the third time.
