The CCP (Communist Party of China) reported this Tuesday (June 30, 2026) that the organization reached 101.3 million members at the end of 2025. A total of 1 million Chinese were admitted to the party last year – growth of 1% compared to 2024. Here is the CCP’s statistical bulletin (PDF – 97 kB, in English).
This year, the Chinese party celebrates 105 years of existence. It was founded on July 1, 1921, with the two main figures of the organization in its embryo being Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao. Mao Zedong, who would later become the longest-serving president of China and the main historical figure of the CCP, participated in the founding and the 1st national congress of the party.
To celebrate the 105th anniversary milestone, Chinese President Xi Jinping (CCP) will hold a medal ceremony for “outstanding members” party and will give a speech at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The Chinese communist party has governed China since 1949 (77 years), when it defeated the nationalist KMT party (Kuomintang) in the conflict that became known as the Chinese Civil War or Chinese Communist Revolution (1946-1949). According to the CCP, 43,000 members who joined the party before 1949 are still alive.
The PCCH is the 2nd largest political party in the world in terms of number of members. It is only behind the BJP (Indian People’s Party), owned by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which totals 140 million.
For comparison, the PCCH has more members than the combined number of the 2 largest parties in the United States (Republican and Democrat) and more than 6 times the total number of party affiliates in Brazil, counting all Brazilian parties.
