Cortina d’Ampezzo/Milan – Austria finished the Winter Olympics in Italy in ninth place in the medal table with 18 medals (5 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze). The overall result is identical to that of four years ago in Beijing (7/7/4), when the ÖOC team came in seventh place. Some countries set new records – including the leading winter sports nation Norway, which won the medal ranking for the fourth time in a row. Germany collected the most fourth places.
