“I am alive, dear friends.” The oldest active actor in the world returned to the small screen for a brief moment with a special message.
After a health scare that took him off stage at the end of 2025, the record-breaking actor Ruy de Carvalho surprised everyone this Saturday, at TVI’s 33rd anniversary gala, at Casino Estoril, where he came to deliver “breaking news”.
“I’m alive, dear friends”, said the 98-year-old actor in a message sent from home, where he is recovering after suffering a mild stroke that led to his and forced the cancellation of the shows of the play he starred in, “The Mousetrap”.
“I didn’t want to forget to congratulate TVI on another anniversary,” said the actor. “I’ve been an actor for 90 years and many of the characters I’ve brought to life were born in this house.”
“At TVI I acted alongside extraordinary actors and witnessed the birth of great projects. It’s been 33 years on a path that is just beginning. May one year from now we can celebrate the life of television, theater and, by the way, mine again”, the actor pointed out in the emotional message.
“Congratulations TVI. Long live the theater, long live television, long live the show. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your affection. Thank you very much”, he concluded, to a huge standing ovation.
The actor is already recovering at home from the scare he suffered at the end of last year. The family on social media for about a month now “our dear Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather is already at home recovering. And in the meantime he received another career award. Another 5 Star award. For us, you will always be the best…the best Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather”.
Ruy de Carvalho is the oldest active actor in the world. He is exactly one week away from turning 99, on March 1st.
