Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán convened the Energy Security Council on Sunday. The most important topic of the meeting is the coordination of actions due to Ukrainian “energy blackmail”. Referring to the infostart.hu server, the correspondent of TASR in Budapest informs about it.
Apart from Orbán, they will attend the meeting Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Energy Csaba Lantos, Political Director of the Government Office Balázs Orbán, chief adviser to the Prime Minister for national security Judge Marcell, CEO of MAVIR Electricity Transmission System Company Ferenc Szarvas, CEO of MOL Group Zsolt Hernádi, general director of the MVM electricity company Károly Mátrai and state secretary of the office of the Prime Minister János Máté.
On Friday evening on the social network X Orbán and Péter Szijjártó announced that Hungary will block a 90 billion euro loan from the European Union to Ukraine until the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline is restored. “As long as Ukraine blocks the Druzhba pipeline, Hungary will block Ukraine’s war loan of 90 billion euros. We will not allow ourselves to be blackmailed,” Orbán wrote.
Oil has not flowed to Hungary and Slovakia through the Druzhba pipeline since January 27. The reason is supposed to be the Russian attack on the oil pipeline facility in the city of Brody in the Lviv region. Orbán and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico suspect Kyiv of political “blackmail” by Hungary, which opposes Ukraine’s entry into the EU. The Slovak government declared an oil emergency on Wednesday and threatened retaliatory measures if transit is not restored. the AFP agency reminds.
