Trump sends a hospital ship to Greenland, announces care for the sick

President Trump’s announcement of a hospital ship for Greenland comes as the region gains increasing strategic importance and the United States emphasizes its presence in the north. The vessel is supposed to help the sick there, but the details of the mission remain unclear.

Washington, February 22 (TASR) – US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that the US will send a hospital ship to Greenland, which will take care of “sick people” there. TASR writes about it according to an AFP report.

  • Trump announced the dispatch of a hospital ship to Greenland.
  • The ship is supposed to help sick people without healthcare.
  • The post included a picture of a ship bound for Greenland.
  • The action is coordinated by the governor of Louisiana and the ambassador for Greenland.
  • Trump has previously threatened to take control of the island.

“We will send a large hospital ship to Greenland to take care of the many sick people who have not been given any care,” he said in a post on his Truth Social platform, without giving any details about who he meant. “It’s on its way!!!” he added.

The US president’s post included an image, apparently generated by artificial intelligence, which AFP said showed the ship USNS Mercy heading towards snow-capped mountains on the horizon.

Trump also said in the post that the ship would be sent in coordination with the governor of Louisiana and his special envoy for Greenland, Jeff Landry.

Since returning to the White House, Trump has repeatedly threatened to take control of the island. The attempt to acquire this Danish semi-autonomous territory was justified by the national security of the United States and the alleged presence of China and Russia in the area. But in January, he dropped his threat after he and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced the creation of a framework for a future agreement regarding Greenland and the wider Arctic region.
