The number of formal jobs in the health production chain rose 20.5% in 5 years. It went from 4.4 million in 2020 to 5.3 million in 2025. Last year, 82.1% of formal health jobs were in the private sector, while only 17.9% were in the public sector.

“The growth of employment in health is associated with the expansion of the care offer, especially in the private sector, which has been absorbing a relevant part of the demand for care”declared the executive superintendent of IESS, Denizar Vianna.

Southeast dominates

In 2025, the Southeast was the region with the most formal jobs in health, with 2.6 million. The number represents 49.1% of the total of 5.3 million across Brazil.

Next came the Northeast, with 1.0 million. The South closed the top 3, with 768 thousand.
