The City Hall of Matias Barbosa, in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais, released this Tuesday (24) aerial images of the city underwater after the passage of a storm through the region. In one of the recordings, it is possible to see streets completely flooded and properties almost submerged. Another video shows several houses with only the roof out of water. According to the municipal Executive, the population was completely isolated.
Public calamity
On Monday (23), heavy rains hit the Zona da Mata in Minas Gerais. 18 in Juiz de Fora and seven in Ubá. In total, according to local authorities, 251 incidents related to the storm were recorded. According to data from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the volume of rainfall accumulated in the region reached 209.4 mm.
A cold front on the Southeast Coast keeps the instability scenario. Therefore, more rain is expected to hit Zona da Mata, the South and Southwest of Minas Gerais on Wednesday (25).
On Thursday (26), an area of low atmospheric pressure close to the coast should increase instability in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, in the central region of Minas, in the North and Northwest of the state. Inmet predicts accumulation of 40 mm to 60 mm.
