At least 23 people have already died because of the heavy rains that hit Zona da Mata, on Monday (23) and Tuesday (24)
A video posted on social media shows the situation of a nursing home in the city of Ubá, in Minas Gerais, after the storm that hit the city in the early hours of this Tuesday (24). The establishment, located on Rua Dona Maria, was completely flooded and the elderly people floated on mattresses while waiting for help.
In the recording, a woman narrates what happened at the scene and asks for help. “Look at the state, what the situation is like. Anyone who can come and try to help us, Lar João de Freitas is underwater.”

At least seven people died in Ubá. Through social media, the city hall informed that the flood compromised the structure of public properties. Services are temporarily suspended in the following locations:
- Municipal Pharmacy;
- Dental Specialties Center (CEO);
- Regional Polyclinic;
- EAP Central;
The Assistance Transport Service is also suspended.
In Juiz de Fora, the firefighters recorded 16 deaths. The scene is one of island residents and lots of destruction. According to municipal management, the search for missing people continues this Tuesday.
In total, 251 incidents related to rain were recorded. During the early hours of the morning, the mayor of Juiz de Fora, Margarida Salomão (PT-MG), declared a state of public calamity.
The Civil Defense of Juiz de Fora estimates that 440 people are homeless. According to the city hall, by Monday (23) it had already rained more than double the amount expected for the entire month, making this the wettest February in the city’s history.
