Revenue requests custody of Bolsonaro’s jewelry to begin process of forfeiture of assets – 02/24/2026 – Brasília Hoje

The requested that the jewelry seized as part of the investigation against the former president, currently in the custody of the PF (), be transferred to his responsibility, so that the fiscal procedure for the forfeiture of the assets can begin.

Currently, the jewelry presented by Bolsonaro is deposited at a Caixa Econômica Federal branch in Brasília. The IRS says that it does not need physical possession, just the assignment of custody, to “enable the adoption of appropriate customs and tax measures”.

The tax process may expire in October this year, according to an alert made by the Federal Revenue Service itself to the (Federal Audit Court). The State’s right to punish expires five years from the date of the infraction.

The jewelry entered Brazil in 2021, through Guarulhos International Airport. One of the kits went unnoticed and was handed over to Bolsonaro, who tried to sell them abroad. The other was caught with an advisor to the then minister and apprehended.

In addition to the customs investigation, the episode generated a procedure at the TCU and a criminal investigation. In the latter, there has already been a response from the PF. The (Attorney General’s Office) has not yet decided on the filing of a complaint.

Bolsonaro’s defense claims that the TCU has already recognized, in a case about gifts given to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, that they were gifts and not from the Union. Therefore, there would be no crime to be attributed to the former president.

Bolsonaro is imprisoned in the 19th Military Police Battalion of the Federal District, located in the Papuda Penitentiary Complex and known as Papudinha. He is serving the sentence for attempting a coup d’état.
