Five people lost their lives on Tuesday in a knife attack in the US state of Washington. The attacker is among the victims, local officials said. The attack happened when they were trying to serve a domestic violence restraining order on the man. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AP agency.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies initially received at 08:40 morning local time reporting that a 32-year-old man had violated a restraining order. They therefore obtained a copy of the order, only to find that it was invalid as it had never been served on the man. Subsequently, they set off to hand it over. While there, they received another report of a man brandishing a knife outside a home near the Gig Harbor area.

“Four people died on the spot, including a 32-year-old male suspect. The fifth victim of the attack was immediately transported by paramedics, but later succumbed to her injuries,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. The police shot dead the attacker during the attack, clarified the police spokeswoman.

Pierce County court records show that a woman who lived at that address last May obtained an injunction against her son. She claimed he had mental and drug problems and that he had previously assaulted and threatened her.

The order prohibited the man from possessing dangerous weapons, approaching the mother, her vehicle or the house within 1,000 feet, and required him to follow a previously prescribed treatment plan. It was not immediately clear why the attacker was not initially served with a protective measure.
