In a record-breaking 1h40 speech, Trump praises his government to the US Congress

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, delivered on Tuesday (24) the longest statement since 1964, at the traditional “State of the Union” speech held annually in the North American Congress. In a speech lasting 1 hour and 40 minutesthe Republican praised the first year of his second stint in the White House.

According to an estimate from the American Presidency Project at the University of California, the previous record was held by former president Bill Clinton. In 2000, the Democrat spoke to US congressmen for almost 1 hour and 29 minutes.

During his speech, Trump made counterpoints in several areas to his predecessor, former president Joe Bidensuch as in economics, immigration and diplomacy. Regarding prices, the Republican said he inherited “the worst inflation in history”. However, the annual rate recorded in the last month of the Democrat’s government was 2.9%, the record being 23.7% recorded in 1920.

In the area of immigrationTrump stated that the Biden administration allowed “11,888 murderers” to enter the United States. However, both the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and independent experts estimate that the record was computed over several decades.

Regarding his activities abroad, Trump declared that he had “ended eight wars in 10 months”. In his speech, the Republican cited the conflict in Gaza, Ukraine, the clashes between Congo and Rwanda, Thailand and Cambodia, the diplomatic dispute between Egypt and Ethiopia and the supposed clash between Kosovo and Sweden.

Trump awarded the Medal of Honor to one of the pilots who participated in the operation to capture former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, . The Republican also announced that he will grant a Coast Guard rescue swimmer the Legion of Merit recognition and Olympic champion Connor Hellebuyck the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
