Strong winds will afflict THESE parts of Slovakia: Drivers must expect icy conditions!

  • Meteorologists have issued warnings of strong winds in the mountains for several districts.
  • The first level warning applies to the districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Ružomberok and Tvrdošín.
  • A second level warning was issued for Poprad and Liptovský Mikuláš.
  • There is ice and falling rocks in some sections of the roads.

On Wednesday, in some localities in northern and central Slovakia, expect stronger winds in the mountains. Meteorologists have issued warnings of the first and second degree for several districts. They are provisionally valid until Wednesday evening. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) reported about it on the website.

The first degree warning concerns districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Ružomberok and Tvrdošín. The second level warning applies to the districts of Poprad and Liptovský Mikuláš. Meteorologists pointed out that stronger winds represent an increased danger for human activities, especially for hiking and mountain climbing.

In some locations, drivers must watch out for ice

The roads in Slovakia are passable. This applies to all monitored highway sections, expressways, first-, second-, and third-class roads and mountain passes. In some places, however, drivers must expect icy conditions. The Slovak Road Administration (SSC) drew attention to this on its website zjazdnost.sk.

Frost occurs on the Vrchslatina mountain pass and on sections of the second class roads Liptovský Hrádok – Podbanské, Pavčina Lehota – Jasná and Víľaš – Červeňany. Drivers must also watch out for falling rocks in some sections of the Donovaly and Šturec mountain passes. Road users also pointed out that the Príslop mountain pass is closed to vehicles over 12 meters in total length.
