Abel Ferreira's Palmeiras wins and continues to lead the Brasileirão

The triumph against Fluminense keeps Palmeiras at the top of the table, with the same 10 points as São Paulo. Abel Ferreira was sent off again, after having been sent off this season in the São Paulo championship, for contesting a throw-in.

Palmeiras, owned by Abel Ferreira and leader of the Brazilian football championship along with São Paulo, and Grêmio, owned by Luís Castro, won their respective games on the fourth round of the competition on Wednesday.

The ‘verdão’ received and beat Fluminense, 2-1, with goals from Vítor Roque, in the ninth minute, from a penalty, and Allan Elias, in the 13th minute, in a game in which Luciano Acosta scored the goal for the Rio team, in the 40th minute.

The triumph, which keeps Palmeiras at the top of the table, with the same 10 points as São Paulo, left Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira partially satisfied, considering that the team did not have a good approach to Fluminense’s goal.

“We came into the game strong, we conceded a goal that we can’t concede, whoever competes to be champion cannot concede that goal. It was a goal that took away a little of our confidence”, considered Abel Ferreira in the press conference at the end of the game.

Abel expelled

The coach was sent off again, after having been in the São Paulo championship this season, with the referee showing a red card almost at the end, after the coach contested a throw-in.

In Porto Alegre, Luís Castro saw Grêmio achieve an important victory and move up to eighth, with six points, in a game against an Atlético Mineiro team reduced to 10 after 17 minutes.

Natanael’s expulsion rocked the team, who took the lead with Noriega in the 51st minute.

Even in inferiority, Atlético Mineiro still equalized, through Victor Hugo, at 56, but Marlon ‘stamped’ Grêmio’s victory (2-1), at 66.
