The national president of the Republican party, Marcos Pereira, stated that the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, will act as ally in the presidential race and said that “Tarcísio’s campaign will be married to Flávio’s” (Bolsonaro). The statement was made during an interview with Jornal da Manhã, from Young Panthis Thursday (26). The federal deputy also detailed the acronym’s planning for the elections, refuted rumors about the governor’s departure from the party and assessed political and economic scenarios.

According to Marcos, the pressure for Tarcísio to make public gestures and immediately enter the presidential campaign is still does not match what the political calendar allows. “People need to understand that each person has their own time, and I have no doubt that, consolidating Flávio’s (PL-RJ) candidacy, Tarcísio will enter the campaign due to his loyalty to Bolsonaro, and also because he is a right-wing politician, in opposition to the federal government. At the right time, he will enter the campaign, especially because he cannot campaign now. But I am sure that, when he can, SP’s campaign will be married to Flávio’s”, he explained.

He also ruled out the possibility of Tarcísio contesting the presidential electionssince the head of the São Paulo Executive would need to resign from the state of São Paulo by April 4th. “I wouldn’t say impossible, but it is extremely difficult for it to happen, because he needs to resign by April 4. But with the consolidation of Flávio that I have seen, Tarcísio is becoming a candidate for president every day, because he is very loyal to ex-president Bolsonaro,” he stated.

Furthermore, the president of the Republicans treated Tarcísio’s harassment from other parties as natural, but stated that he remains in the party: “He is happy, he feels welcomed by the party, and in all these moments of harassment, he gave me a lot of confidence that he would continue in the Republicans”.

Approaching Tarcísio and Flávio

The column by journalist Beatriz Manfredini, from Young Panfound that Flávio Bolsonaro should do Tarcísio’s job on Friday (27). The two will participate in an event promoted by the president of the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp), André do Prado (PL), which will also be attended by the national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto.

With this, André do Prado, who is running for the possibility of vice-president on Tarcísio’s re-election ticket, will bring the four together for the first time in a pre-campaign atmosphere. The joint photo must be important to reinforce the PL’s request for the vacancy – recently, as exclusively anticipated by the column, the that circulates around the House, in addition to the

The PL argues that it has the largest bench in the House, which helped with all of the governor’s projects – internally, however, Tarcísio has resisted, and said that the party is already included on the national ticket, with Flávio.

So far, everyone – Tarcísio, Valdemar and Flávio – has confirmed their presence at the event, according to the press office.

Alliances by state

Regarding the possibility of the party releasing different regional platforms – divided between allies of President Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro –, Marcos highlighted that decisions will only take place after the party window, on April 4, a period in which parliamentarians can change their party.

“I want to start the debate internally, but after the window closes, to analyze what the new bench structure will look like. It’s a topic that we will start in the second half of April, early May”, detailed Marcos. The final definition will be made in the second semester. “The Republicans’ path involves this internal dialogue, but it also involves an evaluation of the most competitive candidacies around June, July, at the latest in August, which is when the law requires us to make a decision. Due to the country’s diversity, we will only be able to make that decision later,” he said.

Support for Lula

When asked about the party’s chances of formally supporting Lula’s re-election, the federal deputy indicated that the Republicans’ mostly conservative profile makes the movement difficult.

“There’s a chance, but I didn’t want to give a grade. But in the test where the average is 5, the grade is lower, because the party is center-right”, he stated. He argued that all five senators from the party are opposition and that, in the Chamber, the vast majority has a position aligned with the center-right. “I can’t go against the majority”, he explained.

EU-Mercosur Agreement

Marcos Pereira is the deputy rapporteur of the text on the EU-Mercosur agreement in the Chamber, which on Wednesday (25). He recalled his direct participation in the resumption of negotiations with the European bloc in 2016, during Michel Temer’s government, where he was Minister of Industry, Foreign Trade and Services, and highlighted that approval could render jobs e generate income to Brazil.

“This topic advanced in the Temer and Bolsonaro governments, and now in the Lula government it has concluded. The message we give with this topic is not a government agreement. It passed through several governments. It is an agreement for the country that will increase imports and exports, create jobs and generate income”, he added.

The Chamber of Deputies approved on Wednesday the free trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union. The decision still remains to be approved in the Senatefinal step to enter into force. Senator and former Minister of Agriculture Tereza Cristina (PP-MS) will be rapporteur for the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union (EU) in the Senate. “I was given the mission to report on the agreement in the Senate,” Tereza Cristina told journalists, during the launch of Instituto Diálogos, a think tank, focused on debate and proposing public policies. She will be president of the institute’s Board of Directors.
