Alencar Santana (PT-SP) stated that the decision will be taken by Lula and the national president of the PT, Edinho Silva
Federal deputy Alencar Santana (PT-SP), deputy leader of the government in the Chamber, stated this Friday (27) that the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, is the best name in PT to run for governor of São Paulo against Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) in the elections in October. According to the parliamentarian, the allies are waiting for the decision to be taken by the minister with President Lula and the national president of the PT, Edinho Silva.
“It’s a name that we’re rooting for to be our candidate,” said the deputy in an interview with UOL. “I think Haddad is the best name to run this dispute for a few reasons. First, he ran in the second round in the 2022 election, where the projects were presented. Governor Tarcísio, despite being well positioned, for now, in the survey, does not have a direct opponent and he has been losing percentages over time”, he stated.
For Santana, if elected, Haddad will have the opportunity to complement the Lula government’s project for the state of São Paulo, “either directly with the municipalities, or, for example, by helping the state government to build the Santos-Guarujá tunnel, an old thing that the federal government is making viable. Or the Jundiaí-Campinas train, which is also a federal resource”, said the deputy.
Asked about the PT’s plans for the vice-president and minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), a name that could also strengthen the party’s platform in São Paulo, Santana stated that “Alckmin deserves all the respect and gratitude“.
“The movement that was made by both him and President Lula was a great novelty in politics in 2022 and essential to guarantee victory in those elections. He is doing a great job as minister and an exemplary posture as vice president. Logically, if he decides that he wants to run for the government of São Paulo or that he wants to run for the Senate, we will respect him and he will be a priority”, he stated.
“I have no doubt that this duo is doing well and has everything it takes to win this year’s elections again, because they symbolize projects that were antagonistic, but that in the name of Brazilian democracy came together and deserve to continue,” he said, in reference to Lula and Alckmin.
On Thursday (26), Haddad and Lula talked at dinner at the Palácio da Alvorada for settle your candidacy for the government of São Paulo. After months of denying that he would contest the elections this year, allies say that the minister stated that he will be a candidate because he could never deny a request made by the president. Haddad is now considered Lula’s natural successor in the PT, starting in 2030, and his entry into the race will signal this.
