Iran: Comprehensive package of negotiations with the US - The "red lines" for an agreement

The delegation that was in Geneva for the indirect talks between the two sides proceeded to submit a complete proposed package with them, according to what was known about the first half of today’s process, which was interrupted for a few hours and is expected to start later. According to reports from Tehran, this move aims to create the conditions for a meaningful dialogue with Washington, at a time of intense diplomatic processes over the country’s nuclear program.

All of Iran’s “red lines” have been spelled out in the negotiating package

As the chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament and Shiraz MP Ebrahim Azizi said, speaking to the Tasnim agency, the proposed package has fully taken into account the Islamic Republic’s “red lines” and strategic directions in the nuclear sector, stressing that uranium enrichment “will not be stopped under any circumstances.” As he noted, the development of nuclear technology is a permanent strategic choice of the country and there is no decision to stop enrichment.

The Iranian official noted that Tehran has tabled “constructive proposals in all areas,” seeking, he said, to remove pretexts and exhaust any room for dialogue. The proposed integrated package, which was presented by the foreign minister in Geneva, can be, according to him, a basis for a meaningful negotiation, if the other side abandons the previous pressure tactics.

And financial offer from Iran

In the economic part, the package provides for the lifting of sanctions, the creation of investment opportunities, the strengthening of economic cooperation and the utilization of the country’s productive potential, with the aim, as emphasized, of safeguarding the economic interests of the Iranian people.

Azizi reiterated that if there is a rational approach from the other side based on the interests of the two peoples, the package can be the basis for a comprehensive agreement. He warned, however, that if the talks are used as a tool for political pressure, Iran will continue its strategic course with increased vigilance, noting that the Iranian armed forces remain on full alert and that any threat to national security and territorial integrity will be dealt with decisively.

Shamkhani says the possibility of an immediate agreement is open

At the same time, US-Iran indirect talks in Geneva were temporarily suspended for about three hours for consultations between delegations and are expected to resume later in the day, under the mediation of Oman.

Oman’s mediator and foreign minister Badr Albusaidi said the talks had recorded “creative and positive ideas”, expressing hope for further progress towards a “fair agreement with sustainable guarantees”.

At the same time, television crews recorded the departure – as part of the break from the talks – of the American delegation, consisting of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, from the residence of the ambassador of Oman in Geneva, where the contacts are being held.

On the Iranian side, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s top adviser, Ali Shamkhani, left open the possibility of an immediate deal, provided the talks were limited to Iran’s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons — something he noted was consistent with the country’s religious fatwa and defense doctrine.

Shamkhani stressed that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has full support and authority to conclude a possible agreement, provided the right conditions are met.
