Russian government says crisis in Cuba is getting worse and calls for humanitarian solution

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters ‌that the most important thing is to resolve the socioeconomic and humanitarian needs of Cubans.

The ⁠Kremlin said this ⁠Thursday that the situation in ‌Cuba is worsening and called for restraint following a deadly ‌incident involving a speedboat registered in Florida off the coast of the Caribbean island.

Cuban forces killed four exiles and injured ⁠six others who were sailing in ⁠Cuban waters aboard a speedboat on Wednesday and opened fire on a Cuban patrol, in an incident that Russia condemned as an “aggressive provocation by the United States” at a time of rising tensions with Washington.

“The situation around Cuba, as we can see, is getting worse. The main thing is the humanitarian component. All humanitarian issues concerning Cuban citizens need to be resolved, and no one should create obstacles,” Peskov told reporters.

“As for security around the island, ⁠it is of course very important that everyone remains moderate and refrains from any provocative actions.”
