China criticizes US and Israeli attack on Iran and calls for an immediate end to operations

China said it was “broadly concerned” about the military attacks carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, in a brief comment published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its website. “Iran’s national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity should be respected,” he said.

Beijing called for an immediate cessation of military operations to prevent an escalation of tensions and the resumption of diplomatic dialogues and negotiations to “maintain peace and stability in the Middle East.”

The American-Israeli offensive this Saturday hit several targets across Iran, including the offices of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, whose whereabouts are still unknown. Reports circulating in international media suggest that senior Iranian defense officials died in the attack.

The Chinese note does not mention the counterattack carried out by Iran against United States military bases in other Middle Eastern countries. The offensive was directed at the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Syria, Kuwait, among others, leaving injuries and, in some cases, initial confirmations of deaths, including civilians.

The exchange of attacks between the US and Iran closed airports and canceled flights in several regions of the Persian Gulf.
