The senator and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) classified as “unacceptable”, who condemned and expressed “grave concern” about the attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran this Saturday, 28.

“By adopting a stance of political support for Tehran at this moment, Brazil places itself on the wrong side of a serious conflict and ignores the objective nature of the regime it is defending,” said Flávio, who is expected to face President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the October presidential election, in a publication on X

He stated that Brazil does not need to get involved in “regional conflicts”, nor take a leading role in disputes in which it is not involved.

According to the senator, the country should also not choose the “morally wrong” side when taking a stance on conflicts. The government’s position, he said, legitimizes the Iranian regime, which funds and supports terrorist organizations and “promotes instability and threatens partner countries in our own strategic interest.”

“Responsible foreign policy requires prudence and clarity. Neutrality is not synonymous with complacency, and restraint cannot mean indirect support for regimes that promote terror, destabilization and suffering,” he wrote.

The senator also expressed solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and other countries that were targets of Iranian attacks in retaliation for the US and Israeli offensive.

Brazilian positioning

This Saturday, the 28th, the Brazilian government released a note condemning the attack by the United States and Israel against Iran and defending negotiation between the parties to avoid the escalation of hostilities.

In the note, Itamaraty asks those involved to respect international law and “exercise maximum restraint, in order to avoid the escalation of hostilities and to ensure the protection of civilians and civil infrastructure”.

The government also says that Brazilian embassies in the region monitor the developments of the actions and recommends that Brazilians in the region pay attention to the security guidelines of local authorities in the countries where they are.

The Brazilian position aligns with that of other world leaders, who expressed concern about the conflict. European Union leaders, for example, released a joint statement this Saturday calling for moderation and the involvement of regional diplomacy, in the hope of “guaranteeing nuclear security”.
