Gleisi criticizes the USA, and Flávio says the government is wrong – 02/28/2026 – Politics

The Minister of Institutional Relations, (), criticized the leaders of Israel for the attacks this Saturday (28) on , in disruption of peace negotiations between the parties.

“The attack of [Donald] Trump e [Benjamin] Netanyahu to Iran is a threat to peace and stability in the world. Nothing justifies the military offensive against civilian populations, especially when diplomatic negotiations were underway. It is yet another irresponsible and authoritarian attack that deserves condemnation and repudiation”, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Senator and presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) criticized the Brazilian government’s position in the face of the attacks. Flávio was in , repeating the route taken by his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

“The Lula government’s position in the face of the Iranian regime’s actions is unacceptable. By adopting a stance of political support for Tehran at this time, Brazil places itself on the wrong side of a serious conflict and ignores the objective nature of the regime it is defending,” he wrote.

In his publication, Flávio says that Iran is not a neutral actor on the international stage, that Brazil does not need to meddle in regional conflicts, nor take on a leading role in external disputes.

“This is a government that finances and supports terrorist organizations, that publicly shouts ‘death to America’, that openly advocates ‘wiping Israel off the map’ and that maintains a nuclear program notoriously for military purposes,” he says. “Internally, it represses its population with systematic violence, especially against women, and thousands of deaths. These are public facts and reiterated over the years, repudiated by almost all countries in the region.”

“Responsible foreign policy requires prudence and clarity. Neutrality is not synonymous with complacency, and containment cannot mean indirect support for regimes that promote terror, destabilization and suffering”, he concludes.

The PT (Workers’ Party) spoke out shortly before, accusing the United States and Israel of carrying out the operation with the “false justification” of preventing the development of nuclear weapons by the Iranian regime.

“We also call on the international community to work in a united and multilateral manner towards containing yet another warlike conflict that could have unpredictable consequences, and not to use speeches that could further inflate tensions,” says the party.

The demonstrations by Gleisi and the PT also reiterated the official position given by the government via Itamaraty, which highlighted that the bombings occurred amid a negotiation process between the parties.

Currently, the Brazilian embassy in Tehran is in direct contact with the Brazilian community to provide updates on the situation and security guidelines.
