The president of the United States, Donald Trumphas assured that the new leadership of Iran, established after has requested talks with Washington and that he has agreed to open that channel. “They want to talk and I have agreed to talk, so let’s talk to them”he declared from his Mar-a-Lago residence in a telephone interview with the magazine The Atlantic.
Trump reproached Tehran for not having negotiated sooner. “They should have done it before. They should have given in sooner on something that is very practical and easy. “They have waited too long,” he said.
No date for talks
Asked about the schedule of these possible conversations, The president avoided specifying whether they will occur immediately. “I can’t tell you that,” he replied.
“It was a big blow”
In the interview he recalled that several of the Iranian interlocutors who participated in recent negotiations have died in US and Israeli bombings. “Most of those people are no longer here. Some of the ones we were treating are no longer here because it’s been great. It was a big blow“he stressed.
Confidence in an internal uprising in Iran
Trump was also questioned about the duration of the air campaign that began on Saturday and its possible impact on the internal Iranian opposition.
