In February, Verdelago marked the completion of the structure of the future five-star hotel, a phase of work known in the construction sector as “pau de filira”. The ceremony was attended by the teams involved in the project and local entities.
The hotel represents a global investment of 80 million euros and is expected to be completed in spring 2028. The unit will have 197 rooms, including six isolated suites (Forest Suites), under the Marriott banner. According to the promoter, the project integrates a strong sustainability component in terms of architecture, construction, energy, water supply and future tourist operations, aligning with the resort’s environmental premises.
The symbolic moment of the “pau de filira” was attended by the mayor of Castro Marim, Filomena Sintra, and the president of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), José Apolinário.
According to Paulo Monteiro, general director of development at Verdelago, “Verdelago has proven to be a project capable of boosting the attractiveness of this area of the Algarve, which currently lacks luxury accommodation with the capacity to accommodate the growth in demand and attract tourism-emitting markets with a high level of income”.
The hotel’s completion, scheduled for 2028, should contribute to the generation of more than 200 direct jobs, in addition to the approximately 300 already associated with the resort’s tourist operation.
Development is part of the Verdelago Resort
The development is part of the Verdelago Resort, which occupies 86 hectares, of which 8.7% corresponds to the built area. Seventy hectares are made up of vegetation, including a Green Recreation and Leisure Park of around 42 hectares, a 24-hectare seaside nature reserve, environmental interpretation areas and a two-hectare lake.
The is presented as the first tourist resort in Portugal to adhere to the Green Globe certification, an international sustainable tourism certification with affiliation with the United Nations Tourism Organization.
The space also includes wooden walkways measuring approximately two kilometers and observation towers with panoramic views. At the same time, the project includes a residential component with 340 units – including apartments, villas and townhouses –, of which more than two hundred are already in tourist operation.
