With agricultural performance, Brazilian economy will grow 2.3% in 2025, says IBGE

A Brazilian economy grew 2.3% in 2025, as announced by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) this Tuesday (3). The data was in line with the expectations of the Ministry of Finance.

The number marks a slowdown compared to 2024when GDP (Gross Domestic Product) grew 3.4%. In recent months, Brazilian activity has come under strong pressure from high interest rates.

All sectors grew in the period: agriculture increased 11.7%; Services, 1.8%; and Industry, 1.4%.

In current values, GDP totaled R$12.7 trillion in 2025. GDP per capita reached R$59,687.49, with a real increase of 1.9% compared to the previous year.

Rebeca Palis, coordinator of National Accounts at IBGE, highlights “Four activities: Agriculture, Extractive industries, Information and communication and Other service activities, contributed 72% of the total volume of Value Added in 2025, activities that are less affected by the contractionary monetary policy”.

According to IBGE, the 11.7% increase in Agriculture resulted mainly from increases in production and gains in the productivity of several crops, with emphasis on the corn (23.6%) ea military (14.6%)which achieved records in 2025. Livestock also contributed positively.

The positive highlight of the Industry was the oil and gas extractioncontributing to the added value of Extractive Industries closing 2025 with an increase of 8.6%.

Another positive contribution came from Constructionwhich varied 0.5% in the year. On the other hand, Electricity and gas, water, sewage, waste management activities (-0.4%) and Manufacturing Industries (-0.2%) closed the year with negative changes.
