The number of deaths as a result of Israeli attacks in Lebanonsince the country entered the regional conflict on Monday, rose to 102with 638 injured, announced the Lebanese Ministry of Health this Thursday (5).
The ministry indicated in a statement that this number could increase as hospitals continue to receive victims. The previous death toll was 77.
Last Tuesday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the Army, after beginning, on Monday, a bombing campaign against the pro-Iranian movement Hezbollah.
“Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and I authorized the Israeli Army to advance and take control of additional strategic positions in Lebanon to prevent attacks against Israeli border locations,” the minister said in a statement.
The Israeli Army announced that its Soldiers are mobilized in “several points” in southern Lebanon.
“It is not a ground operation. It is a tactical measure (…) aimed at guaranteeing the security of our people”, explained Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, international spokesman for the Armed Forces, to the foreign press.
“We have positioned soldiers in the border zone, at additional points, to defend our civilians and prevent Hezbollah from attacking them,” the spokesperson said.
The Israeli Army maintained soldiers in five positions considered strategic in the Lebanese territory since the November 2024 ceasefire.
The Middle East has been at war since Saturday, when the United States and Israel began a joint military campaign in Iran, which killed, among others, the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Ali Khamenei.
Tehran responded with bombings across the Gulf and against Israel.
