Before coach Leonardo Jardim’s presentation conference at , held this Thursday (5/3), the football director asked to speak to explain . According to Boto, it was he who decided to fire the coach, a decision accepted by Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, president of the club.
“When they invited me to come to Flamengo, the president gave me a series of tasks. One of them was to make diagnoses and find solutions. In this case, I made the diagnosis and provided a solution. The president accepted and, as the ultimate decision maker, he gave the hammer”, began Boto.
The director highlighted that he does not intend to reveal what motivated Filipe Luís’s departure. However, he took the opportunity to highlight the work of the former red and black coach.
“There are always many reasons, depending on the context. It’s not up to us to explain them. It’s professionalism. Like professionalism, it’s also about making difficult decisions that seem illogical. Nothing takes away from what Filipe did here and the brilliant career he will have as a coach”, said the football director.
Filipe Luís was fired in the early hours of last Tuesday (3/3), still in the Maracanã locker room, after Flamengo’s 8-0 rout of Madureira in the semi-final of the Campeonato Carioca. The coach has been in charge of Rubro-Negro since 2024 and has a success rate of almost 70% ahead of the team.
As coach of Flamengo, Filipe Luís won the titles of Campeonato Carioca (2025), Copa do Brasil (2024), Supercopa do Brasil (2024), Campeonato Brasileiro (2025) and Copa Libertadores (2025).
In total, there were 101 games, with 63 wins, 23 draws and only 15 defeats. The club’s goal difference with the coach is also impressive: 115, with 183 goals scored and 68 conceded.
