A street sign alluding to a federal government program, placed on a pole in the Jardim Vera Cruz neighborhood, in the south zone of São Paulo, contains the () logo.
The sign refers to the CEP para Todos, dos program, which provides a CEP for locations on the outskirts of the country where this does not exist.
The objective is to enable the arrival of letters and parcels to the local population, who often need to travel to other places to receive correspondence.
On the sign, installed last week, there is the CEP number created by the state-owned company. Next to the councilor’s name, the Correios brands and the federal government’s slogan are displayed.
This Monday (2), a local entity, the Association of Councilors of Jardim Vera Cruz, sent a complaint to the state Public Ministry against the PT member, accusing her of early electoral propaganda and abuse of political power. In a statement, the councilor’s office says that her mandate has won CEPs for hundreds of streets on the outskirts of the capital of São Paulo.
The sign, according to her, was placed by residents of the region due to City Hall’s delay in establishing identification.
“In view of the city hall taking months to deliver the official plates, people organize themselves to facilitate their location and delivery”, he says.
The parliamentarian also criticizes opponents who pointed out problems with the sign. “It’s interesting that those who denounce a public service action are the same ones who spread hundreds of banners across the city advertising the mayor and his political allies,” he states.
In a statement, Correios stated that the CEP para Todos project does not envisage the production or installation of signs and that it will take measures.
“The company was not consulted and did not authorize the production/installation of signs with the state-owned company’s brand. The case is under analysis by the competent area, which will take the appropriate measures to preserve and defend the company’s image”, he declared.
