Governor of RS disputes the PSD nomination with the heads of the state Executive of Paraná, Ratinho Júnior, and of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado
The governor of Rio Grande do Sul and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Eduardo Leite (PSD), released, this Friday (6), a “manifesto to Brazil” in which he formalizes his willingness to run for Palácio do Planalto in 2026. Leite disputes the party’s nomination with the governors of Paraná, Ratinho Júnior, and of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado.
In the text published on social media, the gaucho defends fiscal responsibility ea overcoming political polarization between President Lula (PT) and former President Jair Bolsonaro as pillars for a new cycle of development in the country. According to the governor, Brazil “there’s a steering problem” and need “rebalance functions” of the Three Powers.
“We are not facing a common election. We are facing the choice between continuing to manage polarization or inaugurating a new cycle of development”, stated Leite. “Our generation has a historical responsibility similar to that of others who faced hyperinflation, redemocratization or industrialization.”
For the governor, while other nations plan long-term strategies, the country remains focused on ideological disputes e without a clear development agenda. “The current polarization has become an end in itself, the only country project under discussion. But what we propose is not merely an ideological rupture. It is a strategic reconstruction”, he declared.
The governor argues that Brazil needs restore governance capacity e promote institutional reforms to reduce political fragmentation e increase the efficiency of the State. He also defends the permanent fight against corruption and to organized crimein addition to greater institutional predictability to stimulate investments.
Leite further maintains that the fiscal responsibility should be treated as a social protection agendastating that economic stability is essential for preserve the purchasing power of the populationespecially the poorest. The manifesto also mentions the need to review inefficient spending and simplify the tax system.
According to the president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, the decision on who will be the party’s candidate for President should be made in April. In a scenario tested by the Atlas/Bloomberg survey released in February, Eduardo Leite (PSD) appears with 1,6% of voting intentions. The governor of Rio Grande do Sul appears behind Lula (PT), with 45,3%from the senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL), com 39,1%from the governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (New), with 5,7%and the leader of the Mission party, Renan Santoscom 3,7%.
