Led by Argentine Lionel Messi, Inter Miami CF players visited the President of the United States, Donald Trump, this Thursday (5), at the White House. The Republican received the team’s squad for a ceremony after winning the MLS (Major League Soccer) title.
Messi entered the event venue alongside Trump. During his speech, the American president recalled having seen Brazilian Pelé play in the country for the New York Cosmos, a club that helped popularize football there in the 1970s.
“You’re going to call me old, but I saw Pelé play, remember? He played for the Cosmos,” said Trump.
In another moment with the athletes, the president made a gaffe when he referred to Luis Suárez as a “Brazilian striker”. The Uruguayan, who was right behind the pulpit, reacted with a smile.
The meeting with Messi at the White House comes shortly after a visit from another football star. In November 2025, Trump received Cristiano Ronaldo, who currently plays for the Saudi league, in a meeting alongside the country’s prince, Mohammed bin Salman.
