Internet users criticized the Argentine player on social media after he participated in a meeting with the president of the United States, (Republican Party), at the White House.
The visit took place on Thursday (March 5, 2026), when the squad was welcomed to celebrate winning the 2025 (Major League Soccer) Cup.
Publications criticizing the athlete circulated mainly on X (formerly Twitter). Some users questioned Messi’s presence at the event during the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which dominates international news.
In one of the posts, an internet user stated that the meeting could harm the player’s legacy. According to him, images of Messi alongside Trump “will haunt him forever”.
